Youth and Children - Soul Grow Student Ministries
Senior High
Grades 9-12
Meets Sunday nights
6:30-8:30pm at Youth for Christ Building on Ash Street.
By the time you reach high school, you are smart enough to start asking the tough questions and expecting authentic answers. You are no longer satisfied with "Sunday School" answers.
That is why we gather on a weekly basis to study the Word of God and see how it should affect us in today's day and age. We seek to experience a living God in a way that changes who we are and how we live.
We spend time each week worshipping God in song, as well as through prayer. We use ancient traditions of our faith, such as the Lectio Divina or extended times of silence, to allow our hearts to meet with God in ways that are not practiced as often in today's church. Each week, we strive to see the unchanging God in a new way.
We also believe that the world is way bigger than our immediate selves. That being the case, we spend one Sunday night a week doing service in our own community. We find that to call ourselves Christians isn't correct without acting like Jesus Christ. He served all. We, too, can serve!
We also believe that the most influential people in the lives of high school students are other high school students. That being the case, we do a lot of student leadership! We have a student led worship night one Sunday a month. We have a service and leadership team (S.A.L.T.). And our "teaching" time is very much interactive and student driven.
Junior High
Grades 6-8
Meets Sunday nights
6:30-8:00 pm at Youth for Christ Building on Ash Street.
Jr High is a crazy age. Kids don't know which way is up, down, left, or right...but they will tell you they know directions and anything else. We have a group that fits anybody...even if at times they feel like they don't fit in.
Sunday nights we play games, hang out, sing, and look at what the Word of God says about life. We also pray...since prayer is everyone's connection point with God. We will do large group studies, small group studies, or any other kind of study...just as long as it doesn't feel like school!
Our goal is to begin preparing you for the life God has made you for, a life of serving and worshipping God, and a life of service to other people.
Children
You can feel confident leaving your child in the hands of our trained and experienced Children's Ministry Team. The Children's Ministry, "Little Trekkers" at First Free Methodist Church provides excellent childcare in a safe and loving environment. We offer care for newborns through 10 year olds during all of our services on Sundays, in the forms of nursery, children's church and Sunday school.
Infant/Walkers Nursery
This nursery is for newborns-20 months old during our Sunday morning worship services and Sunday school. Age appropriate snacks (animal crackers/goldfish) are provided for the children unless nursery staff is informed otherwise by parents. There is a nursing room next to the infant/walker nursery for those moms who need a private and quiet place to nurse.
2-3 Year Olds Nursery
For children 20-36 months old, we have a structured Bible story time during our Sunday morning services. A snack (animal crackers/goldfish) is provided for the children unless nursery staff is informed otherwise by parents. During the Sunday School hour, this group will stay in the same area but will take part in our children's Sunday School curriculum.
4-8 Year Olds (3rd Grade)
We believe it is important for children to develop their faith by experiencing corporate worship with their parents. For this reason, children ages 4 to 3rd grade, will stay with their parents during the first half of the worship service, unless otherwise informed. After worship, children will be dismissed together to go to an age appropriate time of discipleship, which will include Bible story, craft, games, music and snack.
